Tender Loving Care
By mnix
Logan Phillips is suffering from a severe eye infection that has left him temporarily blind due to the bandages and the injury. Melissa VanFleet is the nurse who will accompany Logan home and care for him while he recovers for the next three weeks.

Melissa notices right away that Logan is a very attractive man. She considers herself to be a plain Jane though and thinks even with his sight, Logan would never be attracted to a woman like her. When she sees a picture of Logan's ex wife who is a stunningly beautiful actress, Melissa is sure he could never want her.

Logan isn't sure if it's her kindness, her sexy voice or her enticing scent, but he is attracted to Melissa and his twelve-year old daughter Wendi adores her too. Melissa soon finds herself falling for Logan, but is her love enough to heal the damage Logan's ex wife has done to his heart?

Tender Loving Care is a tender loving romance. There's no big surprise or gripping mystery, it's even a bit predictable, but I really enjoyed its romantic storyline. This tender story of a woman who doesn't think she is good enough and a man who isn't willing to trust again is a quintessential love story. With endearing characters and a sweet storyline, romance readers will love Tender Loving Care.

housekeeper romance
By The book lady
This is a pretty basic plot. There's Melissa who's an average looking private nurse, Logan her ultra sexy patient and Wendi his gorgeous 12 year old daughter. I thought this was going to be a nurse/patient romance but it isn't. He's all better in the first quarter of the story and Melissa stays on living with Logan and Wendi to act as housekeeper while their real housekeeper is off in France for the whole summer.

I did enjoy this book but the hero turned me off a bit. He doesn't want his daughter to end up like her slutty and heartless soap star mother who would make a puddle look deep. And yet despite the fact he gets mad at all of his Ex-wife's attempts to make his daughter grow up too fast and his white knuckle grip on keeping his daughter innocent and a child, Wendi knows all about Logan's long line of one night stands that parade through his life and that really rubbed me the wrong way. Plus the fact that he thought that women couldn't be trusted, didn't believe in commitment and would leave at the drop of a hat. Those where the thoughts going through his head when holding his 12 year old daughter. I just made me wonder if the reason he wanted her to say a child was because of his loathing for women. He can deal with Wendi as a girl but would start to hate her when she became a woman and that isn't something I should think about a hero, not very heroic at all.

It also bothered me that Logan told the average Melissa she was beautiful multiple times and then near the end of the book compares her to a gnarled old tree, he was trying to say that beauty isn't only skin deep but why the heck does the fact that she is average looking get treated like she is Quasimodo? Average isn't ugly, in my opinion average is pretty and beautiful is beautiful. This idea of beautiful people and non-beautiful people wasn't handled very well in this book with too much caricature going on.

The problems keeping these lovers apart would never be real outside of a harliquin romance, Logan and the novel as a whole is pretty sexist, with all the women in the book being either caregivers or shallow vain shopaholics with the extent of their hobbies being baking, cooking, bed making and shopping. Those are basic things you expect from a novel like this and so long as you are willing to expect that this is a fast enjoyable read.

3 stars.

Great book, a bit dated in places
By LuckyGirl
I loved the premise of this book - falling for someone when you can't see them - but there are some descriptions that make it startlingly clear this was written when Dynasty was at the top of the Nielsen Ratings. I found myself cringing and laughing when the clothing in a high fashion shopping trip is described. You don't read about heroines picking out red one-piece jumpsuits that taper at the ankles these days! Oh, and lots of references to the hairy mat of chest hair the hero is sporting. I couldn't help but picture Tom Selleck in the lead role. Unintentional hilarity at the "80's sexy vibe" aside, it's a sweet read.
