About the Author
JACKIE MERRITT is still writing, just not with the speed and constancy of years past. She and hubby are living in southern Nevada again, falling back on old habits of loving the long warm or slightly cool winters and trying almost desperately to head north for the months of July and August, when the fiery sun bakes people and cacti alike.

Skip This Visit to Whitehorn
By P. Romance
Maddie Kincaid is a barrel-racing cowgirl and a very good one. Then a freak accident during a competition injured Maddie, taking her out of the rodeo world for a least a month. Alone, she goes home to Whitehorn, Montana to stay with her brother. Her brother, recently married, asked a friend, Dr. Noah Martin, to check up on her while they were on their honeymoon. The moment they met sparks flew and both had their own personal demons causing them to fight their attractions.
This story/plot had so much potential and it fell miserably flat. The prologue and the first 3 chapters were the best part of this book. The rest was nothing but a bother just to get to a lackluster ending. And I usually love the endings of most romance novels. First the heroine kept saying that she was a levelheaded, mature female despite her youthful age. But you question that when she kept making stupid, irrational decisions that could easily hurt herself or someone else at every opportunity. I just could not like or respect her. The hero wasn't so bad. He cooked, cleaned, rich and little bit dominating. But he had some commitment issues. So, with our heroine, he finds that he attracted to her, but vowed not to make a move towards his friend's sister and of course, they succumb to their passion about a few chapters in and immediately regret it afterwards. If this was real life, I would actually believe that they would divorce eventually. (And I normally don't think that after a read a romance). The hero didn't even tell her that was divorced and the heroine knew he was hiding something. It appears that they seem more in lust than in love. How they fell in love and realize the fact in a week is beyond me.
It was not all bad. The writing was well done. Some of the scenes were funny and the emotions were well received. However, I found it to be a waste of reading time and money.

Merritt at her best
By Cloggie Downunder
Marked for Marriage is a romance novel by American author, Jackie Merritt in the Montana Mavericks series. Maddie Kincaid, sister of Mark (recently married to Darcy), is badly injured by a fall from her beloved horse, Fanny during a rodeo. Against medical advice, she drives her truck, trailer and Fanny from Texas to Montana to convalesce in Whitehorn. She hides the extent of her injuries so Mark and Darcy can go on their honeymoon. But Mark has arranged for Doctor Noah Martin to keep an eye on her. And when Noah arrives to do his duty, don’t the sparks fly! Maddie seems determined to ignore every bit of good advice he has for her. This is another delightful installment in the Montana Mavericks series that also resolves the longstanding question of who the arsonist and poisoner is. Merritt at her best.

Misses the Mark
By Alice L
The problem with this book is that it had so much potential to be a fun and entertaining romance novel, yet it so completely misses the mark. The plot sets up the main characters for conflict, as romance novels often do. The female lead, Maddie, is a champion barrel racer recuperating from an injury, and the male lead, Noah, is a doctor that has been asked to check on her as a favor by Maddie's brother. However, Maddie is so unlikeable, immmature and just downright annoying that it is hard to even get through the whole book. I am absolutely not an advocate of violence of any kind against women, however, I found myself half hoping Noah would slap her silly and leave her to fend for herself. For the book to work, the dialogue should have resembled the fun banter between characters often portrayed in the movies such as Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracey, John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara or Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. Unfortunately, it became quickly obvious that both the dialogue and the behavior of Maddie would more resemble that of a spoiled, out-of-control six year old. Part of a good book is that the story has to be believeable, but it was hard to believe anyone could fall in love with this character. Even though romance novels are predictable and one always anxiously awaits the predictable ending where love finally brings the characters together, I really hoped at the end of this book that the good doctor would run away as fast as he could.
